19th Century Sussex Chair
A rare example of a Sussex chair, circa 1840. Made from ash with a rush seat. In the late 19th century William Morris, a pioneer of the arts & crafts movement in England, took inspiration from the Sussex chair and created the Morris Sussex chair. This chair has interesting repeated heart-shape on the spindle back. Another aspect of this style of chair is the fineness of the legs and arms.
